Your steampunks fairies are my favorite, it's original and very special, and the mix between this two universes is surprising (in first, we can think that there are opposate but you mix them in a such a beautiful way that we see always the harmony in your compositions).

Very beautiful piece!! I love the translucency of the wings. Might I ask how you were able to draw over the watercolor background - is it just pencil?? Did you do the entire background and then begin the drawing or did you avoid certain areas when painting?

Thank you :floating:

I did the base painting with watercolors, then used my colored pencils to finish the rest of the details and refine the image. I then used gouache to paint over the pencil for the transparent part of the wings. I had to lay it on kind of thick where the pencil was though since the pencil is somewhat waxy and resists water to some extent. I have used masking fluid at times in the past, but I find that it usually is not really needed if you are careful and the time spent to apply ad remove it is not worth the trouble.

Hope that answers your questions :D

thanks so much for info! I never knew pencils could so thoroughly color over watercolor like that

Yes, watercolor soaks into the board for the most part so it is nearly like coloring on the blank board. I use Crescent brand board. Either 100 or 200 weight hot press. I use Prismacolor pencils as well, which makes a big difference in color since they are somewhat soft leaded :D
